Roblox is a massive gaming platform where users play and create games. While it has real educational and entertainment value, the chat features, user-generated content, and in-game purchases need parental setup. Adults have used the platform to contact children. Since 2026 Roblox requires an age check to chat, groups users by age, and gives under-16s a Roblox Kids or Roblox Select account, but parental oversight still matters.

The 2025-2026 Safety Overhaul

Under legal and regulatory pressure, Roblox made major safety changes:

Age checks for chat: Since January 2026, every user must complete a facial age check (or ID verification) before they can chat
Age-based chat groups: Users are sorted into age bands and can only chat with similar ages or Trusted friends, limiting adult-minor contact
Chat off under 9: Chat is off by default for Roblox Kids accounts and needs a parent's permission to turn on
Age-based accounts: "Roblox Kids" (ages 5-8) and "Roblox Select" (ages 9-15) account types, with filtered game catalogs, rolled out in June 2026

These changes help, but they don't replace your involvement: age estimation can be fooled and moderation of user-generated content is still imperfect.

- Roblox replaced the old Account PIN with linked, verified parent accounts
- Lets you manage your child's settings from your own device
- No account? Parent mode lets you approve requests on your child's device
Content Restrictions
- Set the content maturity level (Minimal, Mild, Moderate)
- Block specific games, or allow ones outside their catalog
- The old Account Restrictions toggle has been retired
Communication (if allowing chat)
- Settings → Parental Controls → Settings you manage → Communication
- Turn Experience chat and Direct chat on or off
- Set Friends chat to Trusted friends or No one
Spending Controls
- Set a monthly spending limit (applies under 13)
- Turn on spending notifications
- Use gift cards for a fixed budget

Understanding "Condos"

"Condos" are user-created games with sexual content that try to evade moderation:

Often have innocent-sounding names
Get taken down but reappear
Kids may find them through word of mouth
A low content maturity level and the Roblox Kids and Select catalogs make them harder to reach
