Since January 2026, a birthday alone no longer unlocks chat — Roblox requires an age check first (see Communication Settings below).
Don't set a false birthday. Age-appropriate restrictions are important for safety.
Roblox retired the old 4-digit parent PIN and the Account Restrictions toggle in its 2025 safety overhaul. Parental controls are now managed from your own Roblox account, linked to your child's.
Create your own Roblox account, verify that you're an adult, and link it to your child's account. You can then view and change your child's settings remotely from roblox.com or the Roblox app — no need to log into their account.
As of January 2026, Roblox requires an age check before chat works at all. Your child completes a quick facial age estimation (processed by Roblox's vendor Persona and deleted after processing) or verifies with an ID. Users are placed in age groups (Under 9, 9–12, 13–15, 16–17, 18–20, 21+), and chat is limited to similar age groups — adults can't initiate chat with children.

Roblox offers voice chat for age-checked users 13+ (verified via facial age estimation or ID).
For children under 13, this should be unavailable. For teens, consider keeping it OFF.
Voice chat allows real-time communication with strangers. Even with verification, this poses risks.
Age-checked users 13+ can add "Trusted Connections" — people they confirm they know, for example by scanning a QR code in person. Chat with Trusted Connections is less restricted than regular chat, so review your teen's list regularly from your parent account.
Roblox now labels experiences by content maturity instead of age:

See where the account is logged in. Remove unknown sessions.
Roblox now has built-in daily screen time limits, set from your linked parent account. When the limit is reached, your child can't use Roblox for the rest of the day. For device-wide coverage, also use device parental controls:

In any experience, press Escape (PC) or menu button and select "Report Abuse."
Tell your child: always report uncomfortable interactions. You won't be in trouble.
