Create Hulu Kids profiles, set up PIN protection, configure content ratings, and manage what your family watches on Hulu.
Hulu offers a broad content library that includes children's programming alongside adult series, reality TV, and mature content. Without proper parental controls, children can easily access content meant for adults. Setting up Kids profiles and PIN locks closes these gaps.
Hulu's Kids profile is appropriate for ages 4 and up. For teens, standard profiles with maturity rating restrictions and PIN locks are the right approach.
Without a Kids profile and locked adult profiles, children can browse Hulu's full library including mature dramas, reality TV, and R-rated content.
Hulu's full library was integrated into the Disney+ app in late 2025, and Disney is retiring the standalone Hulu app during 2026 — it has already been discontinued on some devices. Standalone Hulu subscriptions continue, but if your family watches Hulu content inside the Disney+ app, set up Disney+ parental controls as well. The settings below apply to the Hulu app and hulu.com.
Hulu allows up to 6 profiles per account. Each can have:
On hulu.com or the app, click your profile icon and select "Manage Profiles."
Click "Add Profile" to create a new one, or select an existing child profile to edit.
Toggle "Kids" ON. This restricts the profile to age-appropriate content and turns on Hulu's Kids interface.
Click "Save" to apply the changes.
With Kids mode enabled, the profile shows:
Content above these ratings is not accessible from a Kids profile.
For children under 10, Hulu's Kids profile is the safest option. For older children and teens, use a standard profile with appropriate maturity restrictions and a PIN.
For teen-appropriate profiles:
Choose the highest rating you want visible:
| Rating | Appropriate For |
|---|---|
| TV-Y / TV-Y7 | Young children |
| TV-G / G | All ages |
| TV-PG / PG | Ages 7+ with guidance |
| TV-14 / PG-13 | Ages 13+ |
| TV-MA / R / NR | Adults only |
Enable Profile Lock and choose a 4-digit PIN. Anyone who tries to open that profile must enter the PIN first.
Hulu's default adult profiles have access to TV-MA and R-rated content. Without a PIN, any child who picks up your device and opens Hulu can access everything.
Enter specific titles to block them from a profile even if they fall within the profile's maturity rating. Useful for shows you personally find inappropriate for your child.
If you have Hulu + Live TV, live broadcasts are harder to filter. Live TV may include:
Review channel access and parental controls for live TV separately from on-demand content.
Kids profiles on Hulu do not display live TV channels, but verify this remains the case as Hulu updates its interface periodically.
Check viewing history to confirm your settings are working and identify any content that slipped through.
Select any item in history and choose "Remove" to delete it from recommendations.
Hulu does not include built-in watch time limits. Use device parental controls to manage total viewing time:
Reset from account settings on hulu.com. You'll need your account password.
Hulu is now configured with Kids profiles and PIN-protected adult content. Regular check-ins and open conversations about what your family watches keep everyone safe and informed.
