Set up Disney+ Kids profiles, configure content ratings, enable PIN protection, and create a safe streaming experience for children of all ages.
Disney+ is one of the most family-friendly streaming services available, featuring Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic content. Since late 2025, Hulu's full library has also been folded into the Disney+ app as a Hulu hub for bundle subscribers — which brings TV-MA shows and R-rated movies into the same app. Not all content is appropriate for all ages, so proper parental controls ensure your children only see what's right for them.
Disney+ has content for all ages, from toddler-friendly shows to PG-13 Marvel films. Kids profiles and maturity ratings let you tailor the experience by age.
Disney+ supports two profile modes:
Each profile can have:
On any device, select your profile icon in the top corner and choose "Edit Profiles."
Tap "Add Profile" and enter your child's name.
Toggle "Kids Profile" ON. This immediately restricts content to age-appropriate ratings and enables the simplified Kids interface.
Let your child pick a character avatar — it makes the profile feel personal.
Create one profile per child so recommendations and content match each child's age. A 4-year-old and a 12-year-old need very different experiences.
| Rating | Typical Content |
|---|---|
| TV-Y | All children, ages 2–6 |
| TV-Y7 | Children 7 and up |
| TV-G | General audiences |
| TV-PG | Parental guidance suggested |
| TV-14 | Parents strongly cautioned |
| G | All audiences (movies) |
| PG | Parental guidance (movies) |
| PG-13 | Parents strongly cautioned (movies) |
| TV-MA | Mature audiences only |
| R | Restricted (movies) |
Choose a maximum maturity level appropriate for your child's age. For a 10-year-old, PG is usually right. For teens, PG-13 may be appropriate with discussion.
Enable Profile Lock and set a 4-digit PIN. This prevents children from accessing your adult profile and the mature content within it.
Marvel, Star Wars, and some National Geographic content on Disney+ includes violence and themes unsuitable for young children. Always lock adult profiles with a PIN.
If you have different-aged children, lock older profiles so younger children can't switch into them.
Set a PIN that must be entered to:
This adds a second layer of protection beyond individual profile locks.
Most Marvel Cinematic Universe content is rated PG-13 and includes:
Not appropriate for children under 10–12 without parental review.
Ranges from the more family-friendly Clone Wars series (TV-PG) to Andor and some films with darker themes (PG-13). Review before allowing.
Includes nature documentaries that may show predator-prey interactions, animal death, and mature ecological topics. Generally fine for ages 8+ with context.
Before letting your child watch a new series or film independently, watch the first episode together. It's the best way to gauge appropriateness and opens conversation.
Review the watch history to confirm your settings are working and spot anything unexpected.
The "Continue Watching" row on each profile shows in-progress content. Review this periodically to see what your child has been watching.
Turn off "Play Next Episode Automatically" to prevent marathon viewing sessions. Children must actively choose to continue.
Disney+ discontinued its GroupWatch feature (synchronized viewing with remote friends/family) in September 2023. Remote watch-together now happens through device-level features like Apple's SharePlay, where supported — not a safety risk on its own but worth being aware of.
Disney+ does not include a built-in viewing time limit. Use your device's parental controls:
Set a 60-minute daily limit for Disney+ in iOS Screen Time or Android Family Link so your child can't binge without your knowledge.
Disney+ is now configured with age-appropriate profiles and PIN protection. With Kids profiles and maturity ratings in place, your children can explore Disney's world safely.
