Reddit is one of the internet's largest platforms, home to thousands of communities ("subreddits") covering every topic imaginable — including many that are deeply inappropriate for minors. Understanding Reddit's structure and configuring proper safety settings is essential before any teen uses it.
Reddit's age requirement is 13+, but the platform hosts significant amounts of explicit, violent, and disturbing content. Most child safety experts recommend Reddit only for ages 17 and above, if at all, with parental awareness.
Reddit contains subreddits with explicit sexual content, graphic violence, self-harm communities, drug discussion, and extremist content. While filters exist, they are bypassable and imperfect.
Reddit is organized into "subreddits" — individual communities focused on specific topics. There are over 2.8 million active subreddits covering:
Enable Safe Browsing mode. This hides content marked as NSFW (Not Safe For Work) from feeds and search results.
